Pastor Chris Mullis briefly explains the Operation Mercy Drops program.
Overview:
When Covid-19 began, we worried how our church would manage through the crisis. God provided through the generous people of Pleasant Grove and blessed us with a surplus of funds in 2020. After several capital improvements and establishing an emergency fund, we still had extra funds. Why not give them back to our community?
We are thankful for the generosity and thank God for blessing us with an opportunity to make a practical impact on our community as we shower his blessings on at least 12 recipients over the next year.
What is Operation Mercy Drops?
Operation Mercy Drops has a goal of distributing $12,000 over 12 months, with an ultimate goal of awarding $1000 in grants per month. Operation Mercy Drops (OMD) grants are designed to be extravagant, unexpected gifts of God's mercy and love.
People who need the most help most often never ask, therefore we will rely on PGMC members to sponsor potential candidates for OMD grants. People may not request a grant for themselves. Candidates must be sponsored by a PGMC member.
Types of OMD Grants
How do I sponsor someone?
You may sponsor a person, family, or organization for an OMD grant if you are an active member of Pleasant Grove and you personally know the potential recipient. You must be willing to serve as the candidate's sponsor and be the main connection between the candidate and the church.
Contact an OMD committee member to start the sponsorship process.
As a sponsor, you will work with the OMD committee to determine if the candidate meets our program guidelines. If the candidate is approved, you will work with the OMD committee to determine the appropriate amount and the best way to award the grant.
You will work to shower blessings upon the grant recipient-- pray with them, assist them, advise them, and provide a personal touch rather than simply delivering a check.
As a sponsor what could you do to make a grant recipient now they are truly loved by God and our church?
Some suggestions would be to give a gift bag containing encouraging notes from church members, a bible, some devotional material, and information on the church(if appropriate).
You might consider having a party or reception to honor the recipient.
each case will be different, and special care is needed to ensure the candidate truly feels the love of God showering them through the church during the entire process.
